I left the door opened a crack for you to crawl in
The mail, on the table, dinner in the fridge,
I was waiting in a porcelain bowl of bubbles.
Heard the footsteps draw near—nearer.
I bit my lip so hard it bled.
Pulled the bedding close tighter
and surrounded myself with feature-down.
You’re curled together in the living room,
Purring contentedly on the couch.
The dark will soon cascade to morning.
Cracked your head against the tile,
with my words of departure.
Though making out, fun lasts for days,
Bereaved by troubled heart and dismayed,
I run to hide from your deep-set gaze.
And as we say our goodbyes,
with a troubled fortune coming to head,
we toast our shared past fortnight, and
the glass tastes of liquid candy on my tongue
a bitter romance of sweet flavor.
