I added another notch to my afi 100 belt with The Godfather today. I’m surprised I haven’t seen this movie before, but seriously neither parent had me watch it. What’s with that? Anyways, it was quite enjoyable and I now understand the many cultural references, “Leave the gun, take the cannoli,” etc.
I also watched Marie Antoinette by the daugther of Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia Coppola. Following her critically acclaimed Lost in Translation, this movie was interesting and light. Reading up on the Queen, Sofia Coppola seems to have weaved in a variety of factual snipets into the film that people may not know are true. “Let them eat cake,” has never historically been recorded as something Marie Antoinette said. How interesting!
