After waking up far too early for any human being and aggressively cleaning my entire apartment, Beth and I met up with Jenni and Rebecca at the Renegade Craft Fair. La Petite Tricoteuse met up with us later that afternoon. We looked at the many booths. Everything was really cool and creative. It’s hard going to those shows because you really can’t buy everything you think is cute. Plus, I know I won’t use everything. But I did pick up:
I’m especially excited about the Sublime Stitching patterns. And these earrings are delightful! Knitting needles and scissors. They need minor repairs (the basket of yarn doesn’t quite hang right. Good thing I make earrings so I can fix this!).
The fair was on Division St. and as we’re checking out the booths, we’re, of course, scoping out the shops. We stopped by the Renegade Handmade—our hosts for the event, which was cute but nothing special. Coco Rouge was like designer chocolates on acid. They were very, very expensive. $2.50 for a itty bitty piece. So I got a cookie which was fairly priced, and very delicious. But by far Elevensies was the creme de la creme of the whole day. It had chotckies and adorable gift items. I got my paws on these delicacies:
The nuts were too tasty to pass up. They’re not chocolate covered, but seasoned with cocoa and mocha flavors. Delightful! And this bath ball is going to be put to good use after a long day.
I also snagged MusicCooks: Smooth Cooking. It includes 12 recipes, a CD of smooth jazz music to play while cooking, drink recipe and the box creates a stand for the recipes. I’m really excited to make something out of it.
I also want to make sure the next time I’m over in that area, I hit up Milk & Honey Cafe. There were some other cute shops and restaurants in that area, plus Wicker Park. Very cute. I’ll have to investigate at another time.
After all of that fun, La Petite Tricoteuse, Beth and I went back to my apartment. Beth had to scoot so La Petite Tricoteuse and I dined on sausage, cheese and apple slices, and crackers while we waited for The Captain to show up. It took him awhile to get into the city, but as soon as he did, and he had a chance to take a breath, we headed over to Lakeview to Take 5 restaurant.
We then saw Ingrid Michaelson at Schubas Tavern with La Petite Tricoteuse and The Captain. Even though I was exhausted at this point, it was an awesome show.
I’ve, of course, now purchased the album, which we totally recommend, especially the songs “Die Alone,” “The Way That I Am,” “Far Away,” “Breakable” and “Keep Breathing.”
If you can catch her in concert, it really is worth the cover. Our tickets were only $10 and I really think we ripped her off a bit. 🙂
Kind Words, Big Results
“I met Kate through the Association of Women Journalists (AWJ) and immediately was impressed (and inspired) by her creativity, drive, work ethic and use of social media. Her passion for journalism, digital media and communications overall is evident in the projects she takes on, including LoganSquarist, an online news outlet that she founded that uses social media to socialize the neighborhood. What I admire about Kate is her vitality as well as her desire to keep learning and growing personally and professionally. Kate is a modern-day renaissance woman who is multitalented (ask about her travel, knitting and marathon exploits!) and who brings instant value to any team or organization.”
“One of the best things I've ever done in my career is work with Kate Hamilton. Her enthusiasm for all things editorial, not to mention her energy and passion for any project she's involved with, is contagious. In addition to being a natural born leader, she's also a creative type, a thinker, a stickler for details, and someone with incredible vision and the drive to get things done. I always marvel at how she is constantly teaching herself new things. She always seems to be ahead of the curve on anything related to social media, and she also has an eye for design. This lady rocks! And she continues to be a mentor to me and others in journalism and communications.”

“Kate is a natural leader and I can easily say the best boss I ever had. Kate hired me as the Director of Video Production at the agency Imagination where she was the VP of Digital. On top of Video Production, she also had reports from Audio, SEO, Analytics and Web Development divisions as well. She would consistently champion people she thought needed to be seen in leadership and client meetings where they sometimes might have been overlooked. Kate takes time to listen wisely and is always buzzing with ideas on how to make things more effective. Her energy is contagious and I’d work with her again any day.”
